Iran's national airline, Homa, and the aviation fleet should turn into a big power in the field of passenger and cargo transportation, President Rouhani said in a ceremony to commemorate the 55th anniversary of Iran Air on Wednesday, Tasnim News Agency reported.
Iran is the quickest connecting route between the West and East and the country can be the best air traffic hub for travels, said the president, adding that this route is the best way for disseminating culture and politics, president.ir reported.
He also unveiled plans for reviving the country’s air fleet by creating a 1.5-fold increase in the total number of the passenger seats.
He further hailed the JCPOA as an agreement that enabled Iran to renovate its passenger jets.
In January, Iran signed a major deal worth over $27 billion for the purchase of 118 planes from Airbus. The deal – which is yet to be finalized – was signed during a landmark trip to Paris by Rouhani.
"Iran is not a country which is solely dependent on its oil and physical resources, but relies on its science, knowledge and competent forces, so we can say all Iranians are nowadays determined to renovate and reconstruct their homeland and build a strong, capable and proud country," the president said.
“Strengthening the aviation industry will bring authority and honor for the country.
“Today, the East has turned into an emerging economy and the West is yesterday’s economy; now it is Iran that will link today and yesterday’s economy with each other by establishing a secure aviation industry” concluded Rouhani.
