US created Al-Qaeda and ISIL

US created Al-Qaeda and ISIL

Global public opinion is apprehensive about the rise of ISIL Takfiri terrorist group which captured large swathes of land in Iraq and Syria and is posing a security threat to the international community. The terrorists have committed atrocities in both countries, including mass executions and beheading of local residents as well as foreign nationals. A US-led coalition set up to fight the ISIL has failed to stop the progress of the terrorist group. Iran Daily conducted an interview with Ahmad Nesari, the managing director of Islamic Thought Foundation to examine the threats posed by the ISIL to the region. Excerpts of the interview follow:

IRAN DAILY: Which countries or organizations are behind the creation of terrorist groups such as the ISIL?

NESARI: Certain political trends similar to imperialist currents always pursue certain politics during a period of time. For example, the US has launched a movement against the expansion of Shia groups in the world by using anti-Shia organizations. They believe this movement is under their control. For example, they are supporting ISIL and other Takfiri groups to attain their objectives. Once their goals are achieved, they think about how they can do away with these groups. Sometimes they can manage the situation and sometimes the situation goes out of their control. In other words, the imperialist powers in a period created Al-Qaeda. Today, the world public opinion has accepted that the US created and trained Al-Qaeda, and the Saudis supported the terrorist group financially under the management of spy agencies such as CIA and Mossad. As I said they created these groups to achieve their goals. But, now these groups are out of control of the US. There is no doubt that the US created Al-Qaeda and ISIL. Also, there is no doubt that America is currently against these groups. Now, the interests of these groups do not conform with those of the US.

What is the role of Turkey and other regional states in the rise of ISIL?

A government and a current may use some mechanisms and groups to get to its objectives, but it does not mean that this trend will continue forever. To attain a bigger goal, a country may form a coalition with its enemy. Therefore, I cannot accept that. For example Turkey, or certain states, already supports ISIL and Takfiri ideology since some of these countries have a role in creating the ISIL, but due to reasons I mentioned, they are now pursuing other objectives and are against the ISIL.

Is it possible for the ISIL to form in Iran?

I cannot reject this outright, although accepting this is very difficult because we have a rich developing culture. This progressive Islamic-Iranian civilization is not consistent with the events and the attitude of the ISIL and this is the strength of our nation. However, we cannot say that there is no possibility for the emergence of such groups in Iran. It is possible that the ground may become suitable for the appearance of this phenomenon in a certain era or region since unfortunately some extremist acts by certain ignorant people could encourage this.
