Iran’s Payame Noor University powered past Serbia’s University of Kragujevac (16-15) in the preliminary round of the 3x3 Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) World University League 2016 in China.

This was the Iranian team’s third consecutive victory in the meet which assured it a spot among the top eight teams as the top team of Group B.

It had earlier defeated South Africa’s University of Johannesburg (16-9) and the USA’s Indiana University (21-15) in its opener and the second game, respectively, on Friday.

The Iranians are scheduled to play their quarterfinal match today.

The three-day tournament (October 21-23, 2016) is being held in the southeastern Chinese city of Xiamen..

A total of 32 teams — men and women — from 23 countries, including Argentina, Canada, China, Iran, Italy, Macau, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, Uganda and Venezuela, are representing five continents in the tournament.

The 3x3 (pronounced three on three) basketball is a form of game played with three players on each side and one hoop.

The basketball discipline is currently being promoted and structured by the Fédération Internationale de Basketball Amateur (FIBA), and the highest profile tournament for national 3x3 teams is the FIBA 3x3 World Championships.
