Iran overcame Germany in straight sets in Jiangmen, southern China, to make a clean sweep of Week 1 of the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Nations League (VNL) following victories over Italy and China in the first two rounds of the games in Pool 1.
On Sunday, Igor Kolaković’s men had to dig deep to beat the European side in the first two sets 30-28 and 29-27 before wrapping up the match in the third by a 25-20 scoreline.
Seyyed Mohammad Mousavi and Pouria Fayyazi chipped in 13 points apiece to top the scoring chart for Iran with Milad Ebadipour and Amir Ghafour each scoring nine.
Germany’s Simon Hirsch was the most prolific player of the field with 17 points and Tobias Krick added another seven to the Germans’ tally.
Iran will next head to Japan, where the Asian powerhouse takes on Brazil on Friday before facing Argentina and Japan in Week 2 of the competition.
