Iran donates 10,000 protective face masks to Afghanistan’s Herat

Iran donated 10,000 protective face mask to Afghanistan to help the country contain the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.

Iran’s Consulate in Afghanistan’s city of Herat said the masks were delivered to the city’s health center, IRNA reported.

Last Wednesday, Iran delivered a cargo of medical products, manufactured by the Iranian Ministry of Defense, to Afghanistan.

Iran's Deputy Defense Minister for International Affairs Mohammad Ahadi voiced Tehran’s readiness to supply Afghanistan with medical equipment and share its experiences in this regard with Kabul.

Afghanistan reported on Tuesday it had 3,224 positive cases of coronavirus, including 95 deaths, according to Reuters.

The coronavirus may be circulating undetected in Afghanistan after a random sample of residents in the capital found nearly a third were infected with the disease.

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Public Health said it had conducted 500 random tests in the capital, Kabul.

The prospect of widespread infection in a country where the health system has been shattered by war and low funding has alarmed health officials.
