Zarif to address UNSC on June 30: FM spokesman

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will deliver a speech on the implementation of the resolution 2231 at the United Nations Security Council via videoconferencing on Tuesday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi said.

Mousavi made the announcement at his weekly press briefing on Monday, the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA) reported.

He stressed that the E3's view of extending Iran's arms embargo for another three years is not acceptable by Iran, adding, “The approach of the West, especially the United States, about Iran's defense capabilities is a security approach that we do not accept”.

According to another report by Press TV, addressing the same event, Mousavi said, “The Americans, due to their destructive actions against the JCPOA and Resolution 2231, have lost the position to question the deal's achievements.”

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is the official name of the historic nuclear accord that was signed between the Islamic Republic and the US, the UK, France, Russia, and China plus Germany in Vienna in 2015, while Resolution 2231 refers to the UN Security Council resolution that enshrined the deal after it was concluded.

Mousavi predicted that UNSC's session on Resolution 2231 would be "another defeat for the US,” as the extension of the arms embargo “carries its own repercussions,” and Tehran has planned several “special measures” to take in the event of the ban’s prolongation.
