Iran: Lying, accusing key elements of US foreign policy

Iran reacted to the US official's latest claims on the seizure of an Iranian vessel allegedly carrying weapons to Yemen by saying that accusing other countries, lying and spreading hatred are key elements of the US foreign policy, especially in the present administration.

The reaction was made on July 9 by Foreign Ministry spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi who referring to the claims made by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo described him as the “hatred-spreading Secretary of State of the US whose remarks rooted in the same foreign policy approach,” Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported.

Levelling the accusation against Iran on July 8, Pompeo reiterated his call for the UN Security Council to extend an arms embargo on the country which is to expire in mid-October.

Rejecting the allegations as baseless, Mousavi said, "Americans who feel they have not succeeded in continuing Iran's arms embargo on the international arena and the UN Security Council, are trying to use accusations and lies as an excuse to continue to exert maximum pressure and advance their vicious goals."

Stating that the United States and Saudi Arabia have imposed a five-year siege on the Yemeni people, killing thousands due to starvation and malnutrition, Mousavi said, "Instead of being held accountable for their crimes in Yemen, the two regimes are trying to absolve themselves of responsibility and accountability for their inhumane and criminal behavior by accusing others of making baseless accusations."
