According to a report by the festival, the document was signed by Head of Iran’s Health Ministry's Public Relations Office Kianoush Jahanpour and the festival’s Director Mahdi Azimi Mirabadi on the sidelines of a visit to its headquarters in Tehran by Jahanpour on July 14.
“The battle against COVID-19 is an act of resistance,” Jahanpour said after signing the memorandum of cooperation.
He added, “Resistance is a superordinate concept and one of its manifestations is the sacrifice made by the health workers.”
Praising the festival's move to include Health Defenders section in this year’s edition slated for September 21-27, Jahanpour added, “Cinema can document efforts made by the health workers.”
“There is a need to have a poetic and artistic insight toward the health defenders, and cinema can facilitate that”, he added.
Meanwhile, the festival’s director said the Health Defenders sector is “the pinnacle of the festival. The section will tie the health defenders to the warriors of the Sacred Defense.”
The 16th Resistance International Film Festival considers itself responsible to show the image of the combat against coronavirus in Iran to the global audience.
This edition will be held in two sections of competitive and parallel events. The first section is slated for the Sacred Defense Week (September 21–27) and includes Health Defenders, Festival of Festivals, and the Provincial Election of the Basiji Filmmakers. The applicants can register and submit their works through the website of the festival from June 9 to August 20.
Many of the Iranian health workers like their fellow workers in other countries have lost their lives in their fight against the fatal virus which has so far claimed over 13,000 lives in Iran since its arrival to the country in December.
