Iran: Hook’s coronavirus claim an insult to public opinion

Iran’s Embassy in Kuwait on July 30 dismissed the US special envoy’s claim about the coronavirus spread in the region as an insult to the public opinion.

Brian Hook, who is on a regional tour to push for the extension of an arms embargo on Iran that expires in October, has claimed in his talks with Kuwaiti officials that Iran was the source of the coronavirus spread in the region, ISNA reported.

“Making such statements to promote Iranophobia is an insult to the public opinion in the region and Kuwait in particular,” said the Iranian Embassy.

Hook’s visit to Kuwait is aimed at pushing regional states to stop respecting the UN Security Council Resolution 2231, said the embassy, calling on Washington to do something for its own people first, the colored minorities in particular, rather than the regional states.

“One who has no mercy for his own people, will definitely have no mercy for other peoples,” said the statement, referring to US record for human rights violations including the killing of black nationals such as brutal murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor by US police.

As for Hook’s claim that Iran was the source of the coronavirus spread in the region, the statement said, “Mr. Hook had better not discuss it.” He should have asked Kuwaiti sources about the number of coronavirus cases imported from the US and Iran.

The envoy should know that the coronavirus is a global pandemic and not limited to a certain country and all countries in the world have been affected by the fatal virus.
