Iran’s Embassy in London in a message said the United States has failed to garner support for extending arms embargo on Iran at the UN Security Council.
“Another failure for the US maximum pressure policy against Iran: the US government has failed to garner support for extending Iran’s arms embargo in the UN Security Council. After the US Secretary of State, Brian Hook also left London empty-handed,” the embassy tweeted on Thursday.
The US special representative for Iran Brian Hook was in London on Wednesday and held talks with Britain’s Foreign Office officials as part of his attempts to garner support for the US policy of extending Iran arms embargo.
Washington has stepped up calls for the extension of the UN arms embargo on Iran, which will expire in October under UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorses Iran nuclear deal signed in 2015, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
