Iranian and Azeri ministers of labor and social welfare in an online video talk on Thursday stressed the need to exchange Tehran-Baku experiences in the field of labor and social welfare developments and reforms.

Mohammad Shariatmadari of Iran and his Azeri counterpart Sahel Babayev also discussed promoting bilateral relations and cooperation in the fields of labor and social security during the videoconference, IRNA reported.

The Azeri minister called for sharing Iran's expertise in the field of labor and social welfare. He further briefed his Iranian counterpart on moves made by Baku to control the coronavirus pandemic and safeguard the health of Azeri citizens.

Babayev further underlined the necessity for pursuing and implementing the previously signed memorandum of understanding between the countries in line with promoting bilateral relations.

Reiterating that Iran will always stand by the side of the friendly and neighboring country of Azerbaijan Republic, Shariatmadari voiced support for the settlement of the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia in the framework of international law and said Tehran is prepared to provide Baku with any cooperation and assistance to this end.

Border conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia has started since 1988 over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.

The dispute escalated in July and resulted in casualties on both sides and officials in the two neighboring states have blamed each other for initiating the fighting.

International concern is high because of the threat to stability in a region that hosts pipelines taking oil and gas from the Caspian Sea to global markets.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif voiced the country’s readiness to help Azerbaijan and Armenia settle their border dispute.

Zarif made the announcement in a phone call with his newly-appointed Azeri counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov.

On July 14, Zarif had exchanged views in separate telephone conversations with his Azeri and Armenian counterparts, urging the two parties to start negotiations to peacefully settle their border conflict.

More in Shariatmadari-Babayev videoconference, the Azeri minister called for sharing Iran's expertise in the field of labor and social welfare.
