The spokesman of Iran’s Foreign Ministry and his Russian counterpart discussed ways to boost bilateral media cooperation and confront “unrealistic propaganda” made by Western states.

Seyyed Abbas Mousavi of Iran and Maria Zakharova from Russia also dismissed claims made by certain Western states about independence and neutrality of media in a videoconference on Tuesday, IRNA reported.

“Presently, media in the West have turned into a tool for psychological warfare and dissemination of false news about independent states,” stressed the two diplomats.

They added that their common views on opposing West’s brutal sanctions and the need for boosting bilateral cooperation in the region will pave the ground for closer relations between Tehran and Moscow.

Mousavi and Zakharova further reviewed facilitating the exchange of media delegations between the two countries as well as interviewing of each country’s media with the officials of the other country and holding continuous dialogues between the spokespersons of the Iranian and Russian foreign ministries.

During a visit to Moscow by Mousavi last year, his Russian counterpart had expressed willingness to pay a visit to Iran in 2020. However, her visit was called off due to the coronavirus pandemic and the two exchanged views in an online seminar instead.
