Italy’s Figari Film Fest to screen three Iranian titles

Three Iranian films ‘Exam’, ‘Funfair,’ and ‘Song Sparrow’ will be screened at the 10th edition of Figari Film Fest (FFF) in Italy from September 13 to 16.

‘Exam’ by Sonia Haddad is the story of a teenage girl who delivers a package of illegal drug to a client and gets caught in a weird cycle of events, ifilmtv.com reported.

So far in 2020, the flick has won multiple prestigious awards at some global film festivals — the Special Jury Award for Best Actor at the 35th Sundance Film Festival in the US, a special mention at the 21st ShorTS International Film Festival in Italy and the Best Short Award at the 42nd Créteil International Women's Film Festival in France.

Kaveh Mazaheri’s ‘Funfair’ is about Majid, a young financially struggling man, who comes up with a ploy in order to improve the life of his wife Sarah.

A joint production of Iran and Denmark, ‘Song Sparrow’, directed by Farzaneh Omidvarnia, depicts a group of refugees who, in search of a better life, pay a smuggler to transfer them to a safe country in the back of a refrigerated truck.

‘Song Sparrow’ uses puppet animation to tell its tense tale based on an actual event that happened in Austria in 2015.

Representing different ages, races and cultural backgrounds, the people in the animated film are all willing to put their lives on the line in search of a dream, while having little choice in reality.

‘Song Sparrow’ has already won the award for the best international short animation from the 20th Lebu International Film Festival in Chile.

Born in 2011, Figari Film Fest is a festival dedicated to young and independent cinema, to short films. Over the years it became a lead event for international cinema.

The festival presents about 50 films under 20 minutes in several sections every year.
