Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said new financial and legislative mechanisms are required after the coronavirus pandemic.

Addressing the Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament which was held via video conference, Qalibaf said world parliaments should define new mechanisms relaying on experiences achieved during the coronavirus era, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported on Thursday.

The Fifth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament is underway on August 19-20. It builds on the outcomes from the previous sessions and further reinforces the parliamentary dimension of global governance.

The event is being organized in close cooperation with the Parliament of Austria and the United Nations, under the overall theme of Parliamentary leadership for more effective multilateralism that delivers peace and sustainable development for the people and planet.

The first Conference of Presiding Officers of National Parliaments took place in August 2000 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, just a few days prior to the Millennium Summit of Heads of State and Government.
