Iran sympathizes with flood victims in Afghanistan

Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh expressed sympathy with the government and people of Afghanistan over the recent flash floods which killed more than 70 people and destroyed hundreds of homes in north of that country.

Khatibzadeh’s statement was released after heavy flood happened in Charikar town, northern Afghanistan but Afghan government has not yet released any report on the casualties and damages, IRNA reported.

Violent floods swept through Parwan Province, which borders Kabul, in the early hours of Wednesday morning, washing away men, women and children and destroying 300 homes, according to Ministry of Disaster Management spokesman Tamim Azimi.

Spokesperson for northern Parwan Province Wahida Shahkar said the number of casualties may rise as rescue teams are working to locate people buried under destroyed houses, media reports said.
