Indian foreign minister to visit Iran: Report

Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar plans to visit Iran this week to meet Iranian officials in Tehran, according to media reports.

During his visit to Iran, he would meet his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif, wionews.com reported on Monday.

The Indian foreign minister is scheduled to travel to Russia on September 10 to attend a meeting of the foreign ministers of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states.

The report said he will have a stopover in Tehran to hold talks with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif.

If it happens, it will be second visit by Indian officials to Tehran in nearly one week.

On Sunday, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh paid a visit to Tehran, during which he held talks with his Iranian counterpart Brigadier General Amir Hatami. Following his visit, Singh said that he held “very fruitful” talks with Hatami.

Singh traveled to Tehran after concluding his three-day visit to Moscow, where he participated in a meeting of the SCO defense ministers and held talks with his counterparts from Russia, China and the Central Asian states.
