Iran’s coronavirus death toll surpasses 23,000

Iran’s coronavirus death toll surpassed 23,000 after the Health Ministry recorded 116 fatalities from Friday to Saturday.

Speaking during a daily press conference on Saturday, the Health Ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said that the death toll from the coronavirus rose by 116 to 23,029, according to IRNA.

Lari put the total number of the people tested positive for the new coronavirus at 399,940 after the detection of 2,139 new cases during the same period in the West Asia’s worst-hit country.

Of the new cases detected from Friday to Saturday, 1,138 people have been hospitalized, she added.

The ministry’s spokeswoman noted that 344,516 patients have so far recovered or discharged from hospitals since the virus outbreak in the country in February.

She added that 3,768 patients are in critical condition and being treated in intensive care units.
