Iran to impose restrictions in case of COVID-19 new wave

President Hassan Rouhani of Iran said certain restrictions will be enforced in the country if existing protocols are not observed firmly leading to a new wave of coronavirus.

President Rouhani made the remarks at a meeting held in Tehran on Thursday with the participation of heads of national committees on anti-coronavirus headquarters across the country, IRNA reported.

Stressing that his government will support medical personnel, President Rouhani called for complete implementation of medical and social protocols as preemptive measures to fight the deadly virus.

Since its outbreak in December 2019, the fatal virus has killed near one million people worldwide, while the number of the dead in Iran is over 25,000.

Iran's Health Ministry announced on Thursday that the total death number mounted to 25,015.

According to Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman of the Health Ministry, Iran’s total coronavirus cases have risen to 436,319.

Iran’s Health Ministry said on Wednesday that most of the country’s provinces are classified as “red” due to the spread of the coronavirus as the health officials have warned about a third wave of the outbreak.
