The 40th edition of the Indonesia International Book Fair (IIBF) opened on September 28 with Iran’s presence. This year, the coronavirus pandemic caused the exhibition’s organizers to hold it virtually until October 7.

The IIBF 2020 committee head, Arys Hilman, said that although it is held online, IIBF 2020 will present an atmosphere which is held annually offline at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC).

“The IIBF atmosphere that has been known for 40 years will still be present in the online version. Events as complete as regular editions, such as exhibition, book sales, rights fair, book talk, community and others,” he said during a virtual press conference on September 24.

He added, IIBF 2020 presents new challenges as well as new opportunities because participants and visitors are not constrained by space and distance.

“There are three activity platforms at IIBF 2020, namely, the IIBF web portal, social media, and Shopee.”

Arys said that the enthusiasm of the participants from within and outside the country was very high. “Evidently, IIBF 2020 is followed by publishers from ten countries, namely, China, Malaysia, Thailand, the United States, India, Iran, England, Germany, Turkey and, of course, Indonesia,” he said.

Chairman Rosidayati Rozalina said, the 2020 edition of IIBF covers all aspects of the book fair. This is a multi-event that brings together all stakeholders in the world of literacy.

“Apart from buying and selling books, it also includes various performances, training, book discussions, meet and greet, and business matchmaking,” said Rosidayati.

In IIBF 2020, there will be 150 exhibitors, 40 participants at the Indonesia Rights Fair, 75 well-known authors, more than 30,000 book titles that can be purchased, and 75 events.
