Iran’s Health Ministry on Friday expressed concern about the increase of the coronavirus cases during the flu season.
The ministry’s spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari predicted that the country will experience a relatively severe outbreak of the coronavirus disease and the flu at the same time in autumn and winter, according to IRNA.
Lari expressed hope that the people’s compliance with the protocols set by the Health Ministry in the coming months would help the country get through the hard time ahead.
Iran, the worst-hit country in the West Asia, has been facing the resurgence of the novel coronavirus in recent weeks.
Lari said that 187 people lost their lives due to the coronavirus in the country from Thursday to Friday, bringing the total death toll to 26,567.
She also said that the number of positive cases rose by 3,552 to 464,596 during the same period.
Of the new infections since Thursday, 1,443 people have been hospitalized, Lari said.
She added that 4,137 COVID-19 patients are in critical condition and are being treated in intensive care units.
The spokeswoman said that 385,264 of the patients have recovered or have been discharged from hospitals.
