Spain awards Iran’s ‘Cinema Donkey’

The Iranian movie, ‘Cinema Donkey,’ by Shahed Ahmadlou, won the Corall d’Or (Golden Coral) for best feature at the 6th Begur Comedy Film Festival in the city of Begur, on the Costa Brava (Mediterranean coast of Spain) October 8-12.

‘Cinema Donkey’ is a dark comedy that shows the untold truth behind connections in the world of filmmaking, IRNA reported.

It narrates the story of a film crew who is working on a film project. They need a donkey for some of the scenes. Failing to find one, they settle for a donkey wandering in the woods.

‘Cinema Donkey’ had been already screened at a number of global events, including the Bengaluru International Film Festival in India, the 72nd Cannes Film Market – Marché du Film as well as the 24th Busan International Film Festival in South Korea, where it won a nomination to receive the Kim Ji-seok award.

Some of Ahmadlou’s works include ‘The Honeymoon’ and ‘The Special Unit.’ He also appeared in ‘Freedom’ as an actor.

The son of late Iranian actor Khosrow Shakibai, Pouriya Shakibai, is among the cast members of the film.

The Spanish festival is an event that celebrates feature films and short films dedicated to the genre of comedy.
