Iran imposes tough restrictions due to critical COVID-19 situation

Iran’s Health Ministry said tough restrictions will be enforced in 43 cities as of Monday due to worsening critical COVID-19 situation adding the restrictions will be extended another week if necessary.

According to Spokeswoman of the Health Ministry Sima Sadat Lari, under the new scheme only half of the government employees will have to go to work in Tehran, with the rest doing their jobs online, IRNA reported on Saturday.

Lari expressed hope that new the restrictions will help stop coronavirus outbreak with the people observing health protocols including social distancing and wearing face-masks.

Earlier in the day, Lari said that some 335 more Iranians have died from coronavirus disease from Friday to Saturday mounting the total number of deaths to 321,985.

She added the country’s total coronavirus cases have risen to 562,705 following the detection of 5,814 new cases over the past 24 hours.

Iran has been announced the worst-hit country by coronavirus in the West Asia.
