IRGC arrests three terrorists in NW Iran

The Hamzeh Seyyed al-Shohada headquarters of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced on Wednesday that its forces have arrested three terrorist elements in northwest Iran.

The terrorists have been arrested in West Azerbaijan Province, the headquarters said in a statement, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported.

The statement noted that the elements intended to launch a terrorist attack in the country.

Large quantities of weapons, ammunition, and communication equipment have also been seized by the forces of the Hamzeh Seyyed al-Shohada headquarters, the statement added.

Earlier in the day, Spokesman of Iran’s Government Ali Rabiei said that the country’s Intelligence Ministry has identified a number of individuals involved in the assassination of prominent scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

“The Intelligence Ministry has identified the relevant individuals and all aspects are being investigated, and when it is finalized, a reciprocal response will be planned,” Rabiei said in a televised interview declining to provide further details.

He said it is too soon to discuss the details as the investigations are still underway. He also emphasized that the Iranian people will be informed of the decisive results of the investigations in due time.

The remarks came two days after Iran’s Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi said the country’s security forces had found many new leads on the assassination of Fakhrizadeh, a prominent physicist and university professor who was targeted by terrorists with suspected links to Israel in a multi-pronged terrorist attack in a small city near Tehran on Friday.
