Iran’s Hossein Tayyebi was named among the contenders for the Best Player in the World award at the Futsalplanet Awards 2020, with Mes Rafsanjan’s Fatemeh Etedadi picking up a nomination in the Best Female Player in the World category.
The double nominations took the country’s tally to eight at this year’s awards – five of which came in the women’s categories.
Tayyebi plays for Benfica at the Portuguese top-flight futsal league, Liga Placard, where he has scored eight goals in 12 outings this season.
He sees competition from Deives Moraes, Gadeia, Pito, Rodrigo, and last year’s winner Ferrão, all from Brazil, as well as Argentine Leandro Cuzzolino, Italy’s Merlim Babalu, Artem Niyazov of Russia, and Spain’s Sergio Lozano for the award.
Brazilian trio Amandinha, Tampa, Miuda, plus Japanese Mika Eguchi, Janice Silva of Portugal, Spaniards Peque and Vanessa Sotelo, Renata Adamatti of Italy, Russian Alexandra Samorodova complete the list for the Best Female Player award.
Iranian club Mes Rafsanjan has been rewarded with four nominations at the sport’s most prestigious annual awards.
In addition to Etedadi’s nomination, Iran’s Women’s Futsal Pro League champion was shortlisted for the Best Female Club in the World award, while goalkeeper Zeinab Karami had been named among the 10 candidates for the Best Female Goalkeeper prize.
Mes head coach Atefeh Rezaei is also in contention for the Best Female Club Coach in the World award.
Gelareh Nazemi, meanwhile, received a nomination in the Best Referee of the Year category.
In the men’s categories, Iranian goalkeeper Alireza Samimi is nominated for the Best Goalkeeper in the World award, with his team Mes Sungun Varzaqan among the 10 contenders for the Best Club award.
