“The venue for legal action on the assassination of Martyr Soleimani and his entourage is the judicial courts of Iran and Iraq,” Zarif said in a meeting of organizers of a conference on the legal and international lawsuits relating to the Sacred Defense – Iran’s resistance against a war that former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein launched on Iran in the 1980s, according to Tasnim News Agency.
Zarif also highlighted the Iranian Foreign Ministry’s efforts that resulted in the UN special rapporteur’s condemnation of the American assassination of General Soleimani.
In July 2020, UN special rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, Agnes Callamard, said in a report that the US drone strike in Iraq that killed General Soleimani constituted a violation of international law.
The US assassinated General Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), along with Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, deputy head of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), and their companions by targeting their vehicles outside Baghdad International Airport on January 3, 2020.
General Soleimani was in the Iraqi capital on an official visit at the invitation of the Iraqi government.
The act of terror was carried out under the direction of US President Donald Trump, with the Pentagon taking responsibility for the strike.
The two martyred commanders were highly popular because of the key role they played in eliminating the Daesh terrorist group in the region.
Iran has vowed to revenge the assassination of General Soleimani.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said in December that revenge for General Soleimani is certain and will be exacted at the right time, Press TV wrote.
The Leader added that Iran’s retaliatory missile strike on the American Ain al-Asad Air Base in Iraq was a slap in the face of the Americans.
Following the assassination of General Soleimani, Iran launched missile attack on the US Ain al-Asad Air Base in Iraq. The Pentagon confirmed that more than 100 US service members were diagnosed with traumatic brain injury following the attack.
Ayatollah Khamenei said a tougher slap will still await the arrogant powers by defeating them in the software sector through the efforts of revolutionary youth and faithful elite, and by expelling the United States from the region through the joint efforts of countries that are part of the resistance front.
