COVID-19 peak over in 10 provinces: Rouhani
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the coronavirus pandemic’s peak has ended in ten provinces under critical conditions.

Pointing to the promising reports about the epidemic situation in various provinces, Rouhani praised the people for observing the health protocols, and noted that compliance with health regulations will bring stability and calm in the country in the coming days.

He made the remarks during a meeting of the National Headquarters for Managing and Fighting the Coronavirus held in Tehran on Saturday.

Strict measures to contain the disease are obligatory and must continue until an acceptable coronavirus vaccine becomes available, the president added, according Tasnim News Agency.

No province in Iran has experienced a second wave after getting through the first coronavirus pandemic peak, he noted, saying if the observance of health tips continues, people will hear good news in the coming weeks.

The president also said that the governors of provinces with a faster pace of spread of the infectious disease have been given authority to make the necessary decisions at the provincial headquarters to tackle the pandemic.

In remarks on Tuesday, Iran’s Health Minister Saeid Namaki said he has good news about a homegrown vaccine for COVID-19, adding that Iran is catching up with advanced countries in vaccine production.

The number of fatalities and hospitalizations due to the coronavirus is still high in Iran, which is the hardest-hit country in West Asia.

Iran has been battling to contain the coronavirus outbreak since announcing its first cases on February 19.

Virus-related deaths and infections in Iran have rebounded since hitting lows in May.

Health Ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said on Saturday the coronavirus took the lives of 216 patients in Iran from Friday to Saturday, bringing the total death toll to 16,982.

Speaking at a daily press conference on Saturday, Lari added that the total number of people testing positive for COVID-19 in the country rose to 306,752 following the detection of 2,548 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new cases detected, 1,067 patients have been admitted to the hospital, the spokeswoman said.

At least 265,830 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, she said.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 4,011 coronavirus patients are in critical conditions due to more severe infections, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said that more than 2,482,500 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.
