Zarif congratulates reinstatement of Afghan counterpart
Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a phone call on Saturday congratulated his Afghan counterpart Mohammad Hanif Atmar on winning the vote of confidence from Afghanistan’s Parliament and reinstating his post as the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Zarif also voiced Iran’s readiness for continuation of bilateral cooperation with Afghanistan, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported.

Atmar remained the foreign minister of Afghanistan winning 197 votes in favor, 16 votes against and nine white votes from Afghan MPs.

More in their telephone conversation, the Afghan foreign minister, for his part, underlined Kabul’s determination for promoting all-out relations with Iran.

Earlier in the day, Kabul’s densely populated parts have been hit by a barrage of rockets leaving at least eight dead in the latest big attack in a wave of violence sweeping the Afghan capital.

The Iranian Embassy said on Twitter that its main building had been hit by rocket fragments after one landed on the premises. No one in the compound, located just outside the Green Zone, was wounded.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said the attack was “an example of American proxy war” in Afghanistan and held the United States directly responsible for it.

Afghanistan’s Interior Ministry spokesman Tariq Arian blamed the Taliban, saying "terrorists" had fired a total of 23 rockets.
