Iran, Brazil eager to boost trade ties
Iran and Brazil are keen to expand trade exchanges to at least $2 billion annually, said a senior Iranian trade official.

Head of Iran-Brazil Chamber of Commerce Fakhroddin Amerian said on Sunday that expansion of Tehran-Brasilia to $2 billion year is not unattainable, Fars News Agency reported.

He added that Iran mainly imports corn, soya, sugar, meat and industrial machinery from Brazil.

Amerian noted that saffron, raisins, pistachio, carpet-weaving machines and industrial products are among Iran's major exports to Brazil.

He called on the private sectors from the two countries to play a more active role in trade interactions as this can raise bilateral trade to at least $500 million.

Currently, earnings from the export of hand-woven carpets to Brazil stand at over $20 million a year, he noted.

Iran has in recent years expanded friendly ties with Latin America, particularly in the economic, trade and industrial sectors.

Iran's strong and rapidly growing ties with Latin America have raised eyebrows in the US since Tehran and Latin nations have forged an alliance against the imperialist and colonialist powers and are striving hard to reinvigorate relations with other independent countries which pursue a line of policy independent from the US.
