Hassan Kazemi-Qomi, Iranian president’s special envoy on Afghanistan affairs, officially started his mission as the caretaker of the Iranian Embassy in Kabul on Saturday.

The Iranian Embassy in Kabul announced the news in a tweet, saying Kazemi-Qomi has been appointed at the new post while maintaining his previous position.

Kazemi-Qomi has replaced Bahador Aminian, who served as Iran’s ambassador to Kabul during 2019-2022.

Kazemi-Qomi had previously served at the Iranian Consulate General in Afghanistan’s Herat.

Afghanistan has been taken over by the Taliban since August 2021, following the collapse of the Western-backed government in Kabul.
