Niavaran to host 'Children and Shahnameh'

'Children and Shahnameh' festival organized by Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, will be held at Niavaran Cultural Center on September 3 and 4.

The event intends to acquaint Iranian children and young adults with 'Shahnameh' (Book of Kings), reported Mehr News Agency.

Storytelling, graffiti, doll making and painting workshops themed on 'Shahnameh' will be held for children and young adults.

The event will also host a performance by a group of naqqals ('Shahnameh' reciters).

'Shahnameh' is an enormous poetic opus created by the Iranian epic poet Abolqassem Ferdowsi around 1000 CE and is the national epic of the Persian-speaking world.

It tells the mythical and historical past of Iran from the creation of the world to the Islamic conquest of Persia in the 7th century.
