The festival, which is attended by theater troupes from nine countries, was inaugurated on Thursday and will continue until October 6, Mehr News Agency reported.
About fifty theater groups from Italy, Germany, Finland, Russia, the UK among others are competing in the two sections of the event.
Several workshops have also been arranged by Iranian and foreign artists for interested participants.
Maryam Saadat and her troupe performed 'Concert of Flies' at the opening ceremony followed by a pantomime performed by Yasser Khaseb.
Addressing the audience, Saadat said, "Working for children is hard and requires patience, since children cannot bear complicated issues and we need to work with music and rhythm and this makes it harder."
The panel of jury in the young adults section includes veteran theatrical figures Reza Babak, Hossein Moheb-Ahari and Abbas Jahangirian. Entries in the children section will be judged by Bahram Shah Mohammadlou, Moslem Qasemi and Parastu Golestani.
