Three-month crude steel output at over 4.18m tons

Iran produced 4.181 million tons of crude steel in the first three months of 2016 , showing a 2.22-percent rise compared to the figure for the same period last year, which was 4.09 million tons.

According to the statistics released by World Steel Association (WSA), China, which produced 192.01 million tons,  topped the list of crude steel producers in the world.

The second, third, fourth and fifth places were taken by Japan, India, the United States and Russia with 25.77 million tons, 22.913 million tons, 19.628 million tons and 17.224 million tons respectively, the report showed.

In March, Iran produced 1.455 million tons of crude steel against 1.315 million tons for the same month last year indicating a rise of 10.64 percent.

Global steel production in March amounted to 137.322 million tons, which shows a 13.33-percent rise compared to the output for February which stood at 121.165 million tons.

WSA is the international trade body of the iron and steel industry. The association represents approximately 170 steel producers, including 17 of the world's 20 largest steel companies, national and regional steel associations and steel research institutes.

Its members produce about 99 percent of the steel in the world.
