Festival of regional, ritual music comes with new approach

The third edition of the festival of regional and ritual music of Iran opened at Tehran's Roudaki Hall on July 14 with a new approach, said the event's scientific secretary.

Maryam Qarsoo added that the novelty of this edition is to respond to the fundamental questions about music, Mehr News Agency reported.

"Some Iranian musical types are changing or are on the verge of extinction while the people's attitude towards music is part of our culture and identity which must be safeguarded," she added.

The festival seeks to find strategies to support and expand cultural endeavors, she said, explaining that the festival's main questions are how to protect music and the festival's role to this effect.

The festival's manager for artistic and executive affairs Ali Maghazei recalled that the festival's first edition in 2013 centered on the music from the country's eastern regions while the second edition in 2015 concentrated on music from Iran's southern regions.

The current edition is focusing on music from the central regions of Iran with the attention on Bakhtiari, Kurd, Lor and Lak music, he explained.

The festival is scheduled to continue until July 17.
