Switzerland, Turkey, Lithuania pay posthumous tribute to Kiarostami

Three world festivals are commemorating Iran's famous film director Abbas Kiarostami at the start of the new Iranian year which began on March 21, 2017.

According to ISNA, Vilnius International Film Festival (Vilnius IFF) 'Kino Pavasaris' which is unquestionably one of the most anticipated annual cultural events in Lithuania will screen films by and about Kiarostami including '76 Minutes and 15 Seconds with Abbas Kiarostami' by Seifollah Samadian, 'Take Me Home', 'Certified Copy', 'Through the Olive Trees', 'The Wind Will Carry Us', 'Ten' and 'Taste of Cherry'.

The festival opened on March 23 and will run through April 6.

The Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF) which is underway until April 8 in Switzerland will pay tribute to Kiarostami by screening '76 Minutes and 15 Seconds with Abbas Kiarostami' and the late director's 'Take Me Home'.

The Swiss festival is one of the European pioneers in discovering African, Latin American and Asian cinematographies.

The festival organizes non-competitive sections (features, middle and shorts) focusing on films that have rarely or never been screened in Switzerland.

Meanwhile, the 36th Istanbul Film Festival, organized by the Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, and recognized as a specialized competitive event by FIAPF will feature '76 Minutes and 15 Seconds with Abbas Kiarostami' and ‘Take Me Home’ to commemorate the late Iranian filmmaker.

The Turkish festival will take place on April 5-15.

Iranian film producer Katayoon Shahabi will also judge the films in the festival.
