Assad, Boroujerdi discuss developments in Syria

Head of the Iranian Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi held talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Monday.

Assad and Boroujerdi discussed the situation in Syria and latest military advances against terrorist groups in the country.

The two sides affirmed the joint determination of Tehran and Damascus to continue their efforts to strengthen the strategic relations, including parliamentary ties, SANA reported.

The president said that the region in general is going through a phase of redrawing the international map.

He said the escalation of aggression against Syria and the fact that hostile countries have shifted to a stage of direct aggression will only boost the Syrians’ determination to eliminate terrorism in all its forms, and uphold their sovereignty and their right to shape their own future.

Referring to the recent failed missile attack by the US, Britain and France on Syria, the Iranian parliamentarian said the aggression was a blatant violation of international law and norms and affected stability in the region.

Boroujerdi stressed that Iran will remain, as it has always been, staunch in its support for Syria, vowing to keep up efforts aimed at achieving a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
