The two governments fell out over the Netherlands’ decision to bar Turkish officials from campaigning among the Turkish diaspora before Turkey’s April 2017 constitutional referendum, when the Netherlands was holding its own elections, Reuters reported.
Ankara has appointed Saban Disli as Turkey’s ambassador in The Hague, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said Friday, Anadolu Agency reported.
"Turkey and Netherlands’ respective ambassadors were appointed today in line with the agreement to normalize relations," the ministry said in a statement.
It added Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands Van Buitenlandse Zaken will visit Turkey in the first week of October and the visit will contribute to the normalization of relations.
Meanwhile, Netherlands also appointed Marjanne de Kwaasteniet as ambassador to Turkey, Dutch Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Kwaasteniet was serving as Netherlands' Permanent Representative to NATO.
