Iranian photographer Behboodi at Lithuania contest final

Iranian photographer Fatemeh Behboodi who conducted a documentary photography project 'Mothers of Patience' became the finalist at the 12th International Festival of Photojournalism Vilnius Photo Circle in Lithuania.

The creators of the best ten 'Circle of Life' contest stories at the 12th edition of the festival will be exhibited at the festival and published in the Photo Circle journal; they include Behboodi, Fabio Bucciarelli, Leonardo Carrato, Cristina Cosmano, Sandra Hoyn, Evgeny Makarov, Olivier Papegnies, Camillo Pasquarelli, Maurizio Di Pietro and Alain Schröder, Mehr News Agency wrote.

In her project, which took four years to complete, Behboodi photographed the daily lives of 40 mothers of martyrs and soldiers missing-in-action during the Iran-Iraq War (1980-88) in 15 Iranian cities.

'Mothers of Patience' depicts the grief of mothers of missing soldiers during the war, who live in hope of finally seeing their sons again — or at least holding a body to bury.

Behboodi studied photography and, after graduating in 2007, has worked for several Iranian news services.

She received an award at Pictures of the Year International (Poyi) (2014) and 58th World Press Photo contest (2015).

A photographers' weekend of the 12th International Festival of Photojournalism Vilnius Photo Circle 2018 will be held in Vilnius from November 30-December 2, 2018, during which lectures, tutorials and conference 'PhotoJournalism Boundaries' will be delivered and the Festival prizes, provided by main sponsor Fujifilm, will be awarded.
