Iran: Supporting anti-Iran sanctions against spirit of Muslim unity

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was initially established to promote solidarity among Islamic countries, while supporting US sanctions against Iran violates the spirit of unity among Muslims, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Gholamhossein Dehqani said.

Dehqani made the remarks while addressing the 46th session of the OIC’s Council of Foreign Ministers in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, IRNA reported.

Some Muslim countries, especially in the Middle East region, have supported US anti-Iran sanctions reimposed following Washington’s withdrawal in May from the 2015 nuclear agreement.

Referring to the Palestinian issue as a priority on the OIC agenda, Dehqani said the organization would not let any new development distract the attention of the Islamic World from its most important issue.

He also described the relocation of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Al-Quds as part of the US conspiracy against Palestinians.

In December 2017, US President Donald Trump decided to relocate the US diplomatic mission from Tel Aviv to Al-Quds, recognizing it as the capital city of the Israeli regime.

Pointing to the defeat of terrorism and extremism in the region, Dehqani said Iran is proud of its role in achieving this goal.

However, he warned, that the inhumane ideology is still alive and poisoning the youths’ minds all over the Islamic World.

It is regretful that the OIC is changing its priorities, he said, adding that a few member states are adding this independent and important international organization to their foreign policy tool.

This act will result in undermining OIC credibility, Dehqani reiterated.
