Iran’s National Orchestra will stage a performance on June 17 to commemorate late Iranian movie star Jamshid Mashayekhi in a ceremony to be held in the Iranian capital of Tehran.
Mashayekhi was one of the “top five actors of Iranian cinema” who starred in many acclaimed movies. He died at Tehran’s Erfan Hospital on April 2, 2019, at the age of 85.
In this ceremony, the Iranian ensemble will perform a musical piece titled, ‘Alas, We Were Late All Our Lifetime’ – taken from a line recited by the late actor in the closing scene of one of the films he had starred in – by Iranian composer and conductor, Nader Mashayekhi, who is Jamshid’s son, ISNA reported.
The orchestra will be conducted by Nader Mashayekhi. The event will feature other performances as well, such as reciting poems from the Shahnameh, a long epic poem written by classic Persian poet Ferdowsi.
On the piece to be performed in the event, Nader Mashayekhi said, “I was writing this piece of music when my father died. It was supposed to be performed at his honoring ceremony, but now it will be played at his memorial.
The event will be held in the Iranian Academy of Arts at 18:00, local time.
