Seminar on Khudi philosophy in poetry of Iqbal, Sa’adi held in Tehran

The Embassy of Pakistan in Tehran, in collaboration with the ECO Cultural Institute (ECI), organized a seminar on ‘Philosophy of Khudi (self) in the poetry of Iqbal and Sa’adi’ at ECI on Wednesday.

Allama Muhammad Iqbal, widely known as Allama Iqbal, was a Pakistani poet, philosopher and politician. Sa’adi, also known as Sa’adi of Shiraz, was a major Persian poet and prose writer of the medieval period.

The seminar was attended by prominent Iranian and Pakistani scholars, poets, academicians, students and media persons, according to an email sent to Iran Daily by the Embassy of Pakistan in Tehran.

The chairman of Allama Iqbal Council in Islamabad, Zulfiqar Cheema, was the chief guest at the occasion.

Welcoming the guests, ECI President Mohammad Mehdi Mazaheri paid rich tributes to Iqbal and Sa’adi and said that poetry and philosophy of these two poets are still a great source of guidance for the entire world.

Describing Iqbal as a poet of the future, he said both poets gave the message of improvement in society.

In her introductory remarks, Ambassador of Pakistan to Iran Riffat Masood appreciated the research work being done by Iranians on the philosophy of Iqbal.

The ambassador said Iqbal’s poetry reflected the influence of the poets Sa’adi and Hafiz, another classic Persian poet.

Both Iqbal and Sa’adi worked for the awakening of the society in their own styles leading ultimately to Sufism. Their poetry has no precedent in the world.

In his keynote speech, Cheema said Iqbal was well aware of the challenges being faced by the Muslim world and through his poetry and philosophy he gave a divine message of unity and Khudi to the Muslims of the world.

Cheema added Iqbal believed in action and struggle.
