Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif met with ranking foreign officials in the Qatari capital during his visit to the Doha Forum 2019.
Iran’s top diplomat held separate meetings with his Qatari counterpart, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani on Sunday.
Both sides discussed a host of topics including ways to boost cooperation between the two countries in diverse fields.
They also exchanged views about the latest international developments, the region in particular.
The meetings were held on the sidelines of the Doha Forum 2019, which opened on Saturday.
Established in 2000, the Doha Forum seeks to promote interchange of ideas, discourse, policymaking, and action-oriented recommendations.
Doha Forum 2019 has brought together many world leaders, thinkers, and policymakers to reimagine a global governance to address the collective needs and priorities.
The Iranian FM also held a meeting with the members of The Elders, a group of former UN secretary-generals and senior officials.
During the talks, also attended by former UN chief Ban Ki-moon, Zarif elaborated on the purposes of Iran’s Hormuz Peace Endeavor (HOPE) initiative, the Foreign Ministry’s website reported.
The two sides also talked about unilateral US moves to leave multilateral commitments, including the Iran nuclear deal last year.
Iran’s top diplomat also met with the UN Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs and Peace Rosemary DiCarlo.
