Iran’s short film, ‘The Other,’ to vie in Serbia

Iranian short, ‘The Other,’ directed by Saman Hosseinpour and Ako Zandkarimi, is slated to compete in the 13th International Film and Music Festival Küstendorf in Serbia, slated for January 13-18.

According to the festival’s website, the short film, which is a co-production of Iran and India, narrates the story of “a religious and traditional man who, after his wife’s death, suspects her and thinks she had a relationship with another man.”

The cast of the film includes Majid Potki, Shenia Mozaffarian, and Mohammad Kermanshahi.

‘The Other’ recently participated in the 36th Tehran International Short Film Festival and garnered the second prize of the Book and Cinema section.

The short is Iran’s only representative at the festival and will compete with 20 other short titles from Ukraine, Switzerland, Greece,  Spain, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Belarus, Russia, France, Serbia, China, Hungary, and Croatia.

The directors participated in the previous edition of the same festival with a short film titled, ‘Slaughter.’

Famous Iranian directors, Asghar Farhadi and Abbas Kiarostami, also participated in previous editions of the Serbian festival, in 2010 and 2011, respectively.

Popular Iranian actress, Leila Hatami, was a jury member of the festival in 2012.

The Küstendorf festival focuses on emerging filmmakers and the great names of the world of cinema. It brings together the best of short films and creates an opportunity to exchange information.
