Deputy minister: Russia ready to remove obstacles to expansion of Iran ties

Russia expressed willingness to to remove obstacles to the further development of bilateral economic relations with Iran.

This was announced in a phone conversation between Russia’s Deputy Minister of Energy Anatoly Tikhonov and Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali, Fars News Agency reported.

Tikhonov and Jalali discussed expansion of mutual economic ties amid the coronavirus pandemic.

They also underscored the importance of the speedy implementation of mutual agreements.

The two officials agreed to continue talks on making a final decision about setting a date for holding the next meeting of the joint economic committee in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

Last week, in a telephone conversation, Jalali and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov had reviewed expansion of mutual cooperation as well as regional issues.

They, in addition, had discussed Washington’s unilateral sanctions against Tehran and US attempts to extend Iran’s arms embargo.

They also talked about baseless accusations leveled by some Western countries against Iran’s space activities as well as US politicization of International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) activity and the battle against the coronavirus pandemic.
