No difference between Bolton, Hook or Abrams: FM spokesman

Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Seyyed Abbas Mousavi reacted to the recent reports about stepping down of the US Special Representative for Iran affairs Brian Hook and his successor Elliot Abrams saying, they are all the same.

"No difference between John Bolton, Brian Hook or Elliott Abrams; when it comes to the US #Iran policy, American officials have been bitten off more than they could chew. Same applies to Mike Pompeo, Donald Trump AND their successors," Mousavi wrote on his Twitter.

Mousavi made the remarks after US Secretary of State Pompeo said on Thursday that Hook, is leaving his post and US special representative for Venezuela, Elliott Abrams, will add Iran to his role “following a transition period” with Hook.

Hook, 52, was appointed to the top Iran role at the US State Department in late 2018 and tried to lead Washington’s so-called “maximum pressure” campaign on Tehran after Trump pulled out of the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers.

Pompeo did not give a reason for the change but wrote in a tweet that Hook was moving on to the private sector.

Earlier in the day, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani reacting to Hook’s surprise departure said that Washington’s so-called ‘maximum pressure’ campaign against Tehran has failed.

“Brian (Hook) like John (Bolton) left the White House without any achievement. Mike (Pompeo) may also need to pack up and leave before (Donald) Trump,” Shamkhani tweeted on Friday, Tasnim reported.
