US using ‘law of jungle’ against Americans: Zarif

Foreign Minister of Iran Mohammad Javad Zarif criticized Tramp administration for using “all options on the table” against American protestors describing it as the “law of the Jungle.”

"All options on the table" has long been a staple of US foreign policy," Zarif tweeted on Sunday.

"It simply means the law of the jungle: disregard for a fundamental principle of int'l law: Non-Use of Force. Now, the Trump regime is using the same threat against Americans. A wake-up call? God willing," he added.

Zarif also added an image of a tweet by Reuters that quoted the acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf who, commenting on the recent protests in the US northwestern city of Portland, had said in an interview with ABC’s "This Week’, “All options on the table” to resolve violent protests in Portland, Oregon, including sending in federal law enforcement assistance."

Portland has been the scene of daily protests since the May 25 police killing of unarmed African American George Floyd in Minneapolis. The 46-year-old died after a white officer knelt on his neck and pinned him to the ground for nine minutes in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, also rekindled the flames of protests across the US last week, with human rights activists demanding accountability for the officers involved.

According to Reuters, One person was shot dead in Portland late on Saturday as protesters from rival groups clashed in the northwest US city, which has seen frequent demonstrations for months over racial injustice that have at times turned violent.

Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler said in an open letter to the Republican president on Friday to keep federal troops away from the US city.

Trump, who has taken a hardline stance against the protests, is slated to visit Kenosha on Tuesday to meet law enforcement officials and assess damage caused during demonstrations.
