Iran marks National Cinema Day amid coronavirus pandemic

Iranians marked National Cinema Day on Friday, with the country celebrating a 120-year cinema history. However, the celebration was held without any reporters due to the coronavirus outbreak.

September 12 has been designated as National Cinema Day since the year 2000, during the 4th Iran Cinema Celebration. But this year, due to leap year, it has fallen on September 11.

The first tribute ceremony of Iranian honorees in international film festivals was also held as part of the side programs of the Fajr International Film Festival on September 11.

Citing the Fajr International Film Festival secretariat, this ceremony was held on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of Iranian cinema.

This program honored Iranian filmmakers who won international awards in 2019, as well as those who participated as jurors in important international festivals.

This ceremony was supposed to be held during the 38th Fajr International Film Festival, but due to the coronavirus outbreak and the postponement of the festival, it was held simultaneously with the National Cinema Day.

The 38th Fajr International Film Festival will be held in June 2021.
