Iran’s Health Ministry on Monday reported 2,619 new cases of the coronavirus and 156 deaths from the disease – the highest figures in nearly one month.
According to the ministry’s spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari, 2,619 people tested positive for the coronavirus from Sunday to Monday, which is the highest number since Aug. 13. She put the total number of new infections at 404,648.
She also reported 156 deaths from the disease across the country during the same period – also near a one-month high. The total number of the fatalities stood at 23,313.
Iran has been trying to contain the spread of virus by enforcing social distancing measures and urging people to use mask in public places since the outbreak of the virus in the country in February.
Lari said on Monday that of the new coronavirus cases detected since Sunday, 1,382 people have been hospitalized.
Some 348,013 people have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals in the country, she added.
Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,798 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions, she said, and more than 3,586,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.
