Iran might play Bosnia or Panama, Skocic says

Bosnia and Herzegovina and Central American side Panama have handed requests to play friendlies against Iran in November, said the Asian powerhouse’s manager Dragan Skocic, according to Mehr News Agency.

Should Iran Football Federation accept Bosnia’s offer, the two teams will square off in the European country on November 12 – before Bosnia takes on the Netherlands and Italy in the UEFA Nations League – added the Croatian.

A possible meeting between the two will be a repeat of the 2014 World Cup group stage encounter in Brazil, where Bosnia beat Iran 3-1.

Skocic made his long-awaited debut on Iran’s bench against Uzbekistan on October 8, where a Sardar Azmoun’s strike and a Mehdi Taremi’s spot-kick saw Skocic’s men claim a 2-1 victory in Tashkent.

Iran was to play Mali five days later, only to see the fixture called off after several players in the African side’s squad tested positive for the coronavirus.

Skocic’s team is preparing for the remainder of its 2022 World Cup qualification campaign.

Iran stands third in Group C of the Asian qualifiers with six points, trailing Iraq and Bahrain by five and three points, respectively, albeit with a game in hand.

Eight group winners plus four best runners-up will progress to the final round of qualifiers.
