Parliament passes bill on Iran-Switzerland international transport deal

Lawmakers at the Iranian Parliament consented to the approval of the agreement draft on the international road transport of freight and passenger between the Iranian and Swiss governments.

The draft bill was approved in an open session of the Parliament on Sunday with 183 votes in favor, 11 against and seven abstentions of a total of 248, Mehr News Agency reported.

According to the single article of the bill, the draft agreement is approved as described in the appendix and its documents are allowed to be exchanged.

Hojjatoleslam Alireza Salimi, an MP who voted against the bill, said, “The Iranian Parliament has only reviewed the generalities of the agreement and cannot go into its details.”

This agreement includes 14 articles but only its generalities will be studied in the parliament, he said, adding, “In this agreement, no mechanism has been predicted for resolving probable differences.”

Mohammad Alipour, a lawmaker who voted in favor of the bill, said, "The transport agreement between Iran and Switzerland is being implemented in many countries. With the approval of this export bill, overseas sales of [Iranian] products to many states, including European ones, will be facilitated. On the other hand, it will be possible to support Iranian citizens abroad.”
