In a tweet on Saturday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said the UN was established 75 years ago with “a shared vision of building a better world based on multilateralism & cooperation.”
As a founding member of the UN, the ministry added, Iran has a “proven record” of commitment to the goals of the UN Charter, Press TV reported.
“#UNDay is a reminder that the world has to reject unilateralism & coercion,” the ministry pointed out.
UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.
There is no other global organization with the legitimacy, convening power and normative impact of the United Nations.
October 24 has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948.
